【Jiangxi] Tengwang Pavilion

50    2025-07-22

Overlooking the Gan River in Nanchang’s Donghu District, Tengwang Pavilion ranks among "Three Great Towers of South China." Originally built in 653 AD, it gained immortality from poet Wang Bo’s Preface to Tengwang Pavilion, where he wrote "Sunset clouds fly with a lone duck; autumn water merges with the endless sky." The current structure—rebuilt in 1989 in Song Dynasty style—stands 57.5 meters tall with nine floors exhibiting Jiangxi’s cultural relics: Jingdezhen porcelain, bronze ware, and calligraphy. The top floor offers panoramic river views, while nightly light shows transform it into a glass pagoda animating Wang Bo’s verses.

Entry is 50 yuan (80 yuan after 7 pm for lights). Take Metro Line 1 to Wanshou Palace Station.

Tip:

① Visit at dusk for sunset and lights (show starts 7:30 pm);

② Watch Jiangxi opera performances on the 6th-floor stage;

③ Pair with the free August 1st Uprising Museum;

④ Nearby snack streets serve clay-pot soup and Nanchang mixed noodles
