What is the "tipping culture" in the United States?
In the US, for almost all services provided to individuals, the service provider expects to receive a tip from the customer. If no tip is given, it indicates extreme dissatisfaction with the service provided. If no tip is left when the service itself is satisfactory, you may be refused service next time.
When dining at a restaurant, it is customary to tip the waiter 15% of the total bill (unless it's fast food, a buffet, or the bill already includes "Gratuity," in which case no tip is needed).
